As you age, you may notice subtle lines and wrinkles forming on your face. While they are certainly nothing to be ashamed of, it is also perfectly all right if you are not ready to embrace them. That is why you might choose to get Dysport, an injectable cosmetic treatment that is similar to BOTOX. It can greatly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, allowing you to look years younger! But what are its risks and side effects? This blog post explains some important information.

Common Mild Side Effects

If side effects occur after your injections, they will likely be mild and temporary. Some people experience:

  • Pain or bruising at the injection sites
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Eye irritation or dry eyes
  • Runny nose

These issues usually go away on their own within a few days to a couple of weeks, but if they become prolonged or severe, call your doctor for advice.

Severe Side Effects and Risks

In very rare cases, patients experience serious side effects or complications after receiving Dysport. Such issues include:

  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Problems with speech, swallowing or breathing
  • Muscle weakness that travels beyond the injection sites
  • Changes in vision
  • Drooping of the eyelids
  • Infection
  • Loss of bladder control

These issues should be evaluated by a medical professional ASAP.

Is Dysport Worth It?

Just like any other medical treatment, Dysport is not totally risk-free. However, many patients decide it is still worth trying, especially when they take steps to minimize the chances of something going wrong. Here are some practical things you can do:

  • Communicate openly with your Dysport provider. Honestly answer all of their questions about your medical history, allergies, and current diagnoses. If they find any contraindications for Dysport, you may need to think about pursuing other types of wrinkle treatments.
  • Find a qualified Dysport injector. Dysport, BOTOX, and similar products are available in many places. Choose a provider whom you truly trust and who has a good reputation.
  • Follow post-treatment instructions. You should not rub the treatment area or engage in vigorous exercise. You should also avoid taking medications that might interact with Dysport, such as muscle relaxants or other medications that contain botulinum toxin (the active ingredient in Dysport).

Dysport is an effective wrinkle treatment, and it is a safe choice for most people. Ask a qualified care provider if you would like to learn what to expect from it.
